Our Mission
WHAT EQUALSPLIT DOES
EqualSplit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Oak Park, California, founded and run entirely by high school students. Our mission is to make precision performance data available to every athlete, regardless of what their school or club can afford.
We do three things:
- We design and build timing gates. We develop the electronics, circuit boards, enclosures, and software in-house, which is how we deliver a system for a fraction of what commercial equipment costs.
- We donate systems to programs that cannot afford them. Schools, youth clubs, and community programs apply through our website. We review every application and provide units free of charge, including shipping.
- We fund those donations through sales and gifts. The margin on every set sold goes directly into the donation program, and donations from supporters let us reach more programs than sales alone would allow.
Nobody at EqualSplit draws a salary. We are a student organization, and the work is done by students.
The Problem
THE DATA GAP IN ATHLETICS
Good coaching needs real numbers. Timing gates give you split data: how fast an athlete accelerates, where their top end is, how they compare week to week. Without that, you're guessing. Hand timing is off by a few tenths at best. That's not nothing. In sprinting, that's everything.
The schools that can afford the tools get the data. Everyone else makes do. We got tired of that being the way it works.
Times are dropping at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, and advancing technology, including timing gates, is a big part of why. We're working to equal the field, so that edge isn't reserved for the programs that can pay for it and talent in underserved communities can reach its full potential.
$350 – $1,500+ per unit for systems with similar or worse functionality, often with monthly subscription fees on top. Accessible only to elite and well-funded programs.
Free to programs that cannot afford equipment. For those that can, $79.99 covers little more than the parts, and the difference funds another program’s set. No subscription. Two timing modes: acceleration splits and full speed profiles.
We donate units to underfunded schools and programs. Financial aid is real and we review every application.
